BIOGRAPHY

Brent is an accomplished attorney who is rare in the legal world in that he has significant experience in both litigation and transactional matters. Prior to joining the firm Brent practiced in the Charlotte offices of AmLaw100 law firms. There he represented national banks, loan servicers, and investment funds with respect to commercial mortgage backed securities and real estate investments. On the transactional side, this work included overseeing real estate investments, sales of commercial properties, and an array of smaller transactions such as condemnation proceedings, property management changes, and approving renovations. On the litigation side, this work included loan workouts and litigation to enforce lender rights.

Before going into private practice Brent was a clerk for the Honorable James L. Gale, the former Chief Judge of the North Carolina Business Court, where Brent drafted opinions and orders on unfair or deceptive trade practices, trade secret theft, breaches of fiduciary duty, and disputes within closely held businesses. Brent studied law at Duke University, where he served as an editor at the Duke Journal of Comparative and International Law, and as an officer in the Duke Bar Association.

Before becoming an attorney, Brent was a political professional who traveled the country working on Congressional and other campaigns as a campaign manager and fundraiser. He remains involved as an active private citizen who builds relationships with and fundraises for state and local officials.

Brent grew up outside of Biloxi, MS and received his B.A., cum laude, from the University of Mississippi, where he received the Sally McDonnell-Barksdale Honors Scholarship, the top academic scholarship at the school. He has also earned an M.Sc., with distinction, from the London School of Economics.
